Nina Sampogne, 12, from Waverly, was recently named 2014-’15 Miss Pennsylvania at the Pennsylvania USA Ambassador Pageant. Sampogne also received trophies in the talent, photogenic, top model and “best in class” categories, as well as the “people’s choice,” “directors” and “star” awards. Sampogne stated that her most valued award was the “Friendship Award,” which was given to the contestant with a positive attitude and her compassion to help others.
Sampogne is a sixth-grade student at Abington Heights Middle School, where she has consistently made the honor roll. She has been studying piano for five years with the Abington Piano Academy and Sidnam Studios and recently played Carnegie Hall. She is also a member of the Abington Heights Civic League Dance Company and recently appeared in the Green Ridge Youth Theatre Group’s production of “Annie Jr.”
Sampogne is the daughter of Vito and Laura Dargatis Sampogne and has a brother, Michael. She plans to raise awareness and support for the Children’s Advocacy Center in Scranton and the American Cancer Society as part of her platform. Sampogne will travel to Florida this month to compete for the title of Preteen USA Ambassador.
