Votes came in from across the Abingtons, both by mail and, for the first time, online, for our annual Readers' Choice awards. The winners were announced at a special party at the Ramada Inn in Clarks Summit on Wednesday, May 22. We would like to thank everyone who took the time to vote; it is thanks to you that we know who you feel is the "best of the best."

If shopping's your thing, the best accessory store honors went to Treat, while the best consignment store was Jackson and Jill and the best place to buy gifts was the Waverly General Store. Classique Clothes was named the best clothing store and the best jeweler is The Jewelry Room. The best shoe store is Sole to Soul and the best source for antiques is Carriage Barn. The best specialty food store is Caravia. The best health food can be found at Everything Natural, which also won for best customer service.

Diana Lombardi of the Abington Art Studio was named the best artist in the Abingtons. White's Country Floral was named the best florist, while Corky's Garden Path was named best garden center. Readers felt the best festival was the Clarks Summit Festival of Ice and that the best community park was Hillside Park. The best non-profit was Marley's Mission. Julie Jordan was named best wedding photographer and the best travel agent was Abington Travel. The best professional party deejay was EJ the DJ.

If you're looking for a good place to stash your cash, both PNC and Penn Security were named best banks. Abington Financial was named best financial service. Diane Calabro was named best realtor. Whitbeck Insurance Agency was named best insurance agent.

If food's your thing, the best Asian restaurant according to readers is Formosa while the best Italian restaurant is Bazil, which also won the award for best romantic restaurant. The best bakery honors went to Beta Bread. The best breakfast restaurant is the Sunrise Café and the best brunch restaurant is Patsel's. The best lunch restaurant is the Be Life Café and Marketplace. The best burger can be found at Damon's and the best cheese steak is at the Hoagie Hut. Armetta's was named the best caterer and Weis Markets was named the best grocery store.

The Gourmet Restaurant captured the awards for best diner and best chef for Al Vargo. The entire staff of The Gourmet won the best server honors.

The best dessert can be found at the Glenburn Grill and the best cup of coffee can be found at Duffy's Coffee House. The best specialty cup of coffee can be found at Starbuck's.

The friendliest bar in the Abingtons according to readers is the State Street Grill, while the best bartender is Frank Bicchielli at Damon's. The best bar food award went to J.J. Bridjes while McGrath's in Dalton was considered the best place for live music. State Street Grill also won the awards for best restaurant wine selection and the coveted best restaurant award. Damon's won the award for best place to dine with the kids while Jim's Place won the award for best new restaurant.

Nickie's Fabulous Hoagies won the award for best hoagie/sub and Manning's won the award for best ice cream. Colarusso's won for best pizza, Gin's won for best wings and Dino and Francesco's won for best pasta.

If you're looking to get fit, the best fitness center in the Abingtons according to readers is Brown's Gym. The best yoga can be found at Jaya Yoga and the best pilates can be found at Body Dynamic. The best golf course is Stonehedge.

The best day care center in the Abingtons is Treasure House, while Lahey Family Fun Park is the best place for a family-fun night out.

The best hair salon honors went to Sanderson State Street Salon and the best barber shop is Jake's.

The best auto repair shop is Monro Muffler and the best new-car dealer is Gibbons Ford while Cars-R-Us garnered best used-car dealer honors. Chuck Davis was named best contractor, Tom Laurie was named best electrician and Eric Salerno was named best plumber.

CVS was named best pharmacy and Flawless Paws was named best pet groomer.

Readers felt we were remiss by not including several categories, so we listened! Best chiropractor honors went to ProActive Family Chiropractic, best nail salon honors went to CoCo and best cleaners honors went to Summit Square Cleaners.

Courtenay Degnon at Clarks Summit Elementary was named best elementary-school teacher while Rae Rudzinski at Abington Heights Middle School won best middle-school teacher honors. Vince Bucciarelli of Abington Heights High School won the best high-school teacher award and Ken Bianchi won the award for best high-school coach.
