Fishing Derby

The Forever Young Kids’ Fishing Derby will be held on Saturday, June 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at Hillside Park, located at the intersection of Winola Road and Grove Street. A prize raffle and awards ceremony will take place from noon to 1 p.m. The event is open to children age 16 and younger. Registration is available at the Abington Community Library through Friday, June 13, at 6 p.m. Registration will also be available the day of the derby beginning at 8 a.m. All registrations require a parent’s signature. Participants must bring their own fishing equipment. Lunch and bait will be provided. A painting station for the Finish Shop Pocket Park will be available for a $10 donation.

Learn To Swim

The Abington Heights School District is hosting five learn-to-swim sessions throughout the summer at the high school pool, 222 Noble Road, Clarks Summit. Session one will be held from Tuesday, June 17, through Thursday, June 26. Session two will be held from Monday, June 30, through Thursday, July 10. Session three will be held from Monday, July 14, through Thursday, July 24. Session four will be held from Monday, July 28, through Thursday, Aug. 7. Session five will be held from Monday, Aug. 11, through Thursday, Aug. 21. Offerings will include “Aqua Tots,” beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, advanced and parent/child classes. Golf Clinics

Junior golf clinics will be held at the Lakeland Golf Course, located on Route 107 in Fleetville, on Thursday mornings beginning on June 19. The clinics are for children of all skill levels and will last for eight weeks with three sessions available. An 8:30-10 a.m. or 10:15-11:45 a.m. session is available for ages 8-16 and a session from noon to 12:45 p.m. is available for ages 4-7. Clubs will be available if needed. Pampered Chef

The Newton-Ransom Volunteer Fire Co. auxiliary will host a Pampered Chef party fundraiser on Wednesday, June 18, at the fire hall, 1890 Newton-Ransom Blvd., beginning at 6:30. Snacks and drinks will be available. Call 570-587-2526 for more information.

All Day Bingo

The Factoryville Fire Co. auxiliary will host an all day bingo on Sunday, June 22, at the fire hall, 120 College Ave. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m. and games will begin at 12:30 p.m. Snacks, beverages and a full dinner menu are included. Call Bonnie at 570-942-4574 to reserve a seat.

‘Super Matt’ Benefit

A benefit for four-year-old Matthew Christian McDonnell, who was recently diagnosed with kidney cancer, will be held on Sunday, June 22, at the Greenwood Hose Co., 3727 Birney Ave., Moosic. From 1-3 p.m., basket raffles and 50/50 drawings will be available, while the evening activities will be held from 4-8 p.m. Evening activities will include food, entertainment by Johnny Superstar, magic, appearances by Mickey and Minnie Mouse and face painting. Vacation Bible School

Our Lady of the Snows/Church of St. Gregory parishes will host a vacation Bible school from Monday, June 23, to Friday, June 27, at Our Lady of Peace School, 410 N. Abington Road, Clarks Green. Football Camp

The Abington Heights Football Department will host its annual Future Comets Football Camp on Sunday, June 29, from 1-4 p.m., at Abington Heights High School, 222 Noble Road. Cost is $20 for the first child and $15 for each additional child from the same family. All participants will receive a T-shirt. Participants may register the day of the camp, but advanced registration is encouraged.
