CLARKS SUMMIT — The Abington Heights Civic League will start the new club year with a banquet at Constantino’s Catering & Events in Glenburn Township on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. We will be collecting items for the Ronald McDonald House. Invitations will provide a list of what’s needed. Members were asked to reply by Aug. 24.
The second annual purse bingo that was to be held Sept. 23 has been postponed until later in the year. Look for the new date in a future column.
October is membership recruitment month. Our membership committee will hold an informative gathering for anyone who is interested in learning more about the Abington Heights Civc League. It will include a short overview of the many things we have done and continue to accomplish every year. More information will be shared next month.
In 1958, we adopted a ward at Clarks Summit State Hospital and in 1987, a group of members began monthly visits to spend time with patients and share treats such as ice cream and baked goods. We also celebrate birthdays each month and, over the holidays, we bring gifts. The patients look forward to these visits and are thrilled when our members arrive.
New members are always welcome. Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month, September through June, at 7 p.m. in the AHCL’s clubhouse, 115 Colburn Ave.
